High Pine Belt temperatures affect power bills

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Summer is here, and temperatures are on the rise. With the increase in heat, Southern Pine Electrical Power Association members may face higher energy bills.

There are many ways to save on your electric bill this season.

"For every two degrees you raise your thermostat higher than 78 degrees, you save 14 percent on your electric bill," said Mike Bryant, Southern Pine energy expert. 

Customers can also save money by doing simple maintenance on air conditioning units. Customer should replace filters regularly, and to caulk around windows and install weather stripping around doors.
