CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -

Just hours after Jim Brennan's loved ones attended his funeral, Cleveland Heights Police shared an unexpected update in the murder investigation.

Just before 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Cleveland Heights Police Chief Jeff Robertson shared this message:

"Today I would like to tell the friends and loved ones of Jim Brennan, the citizens of Cleveland Heights and all others touched by this tragedy that we have obtained full confessions from those in our custody as to their involvement in this crime.

I am extremely proud of the efforts and hard work of the members of the Cleveland Heights Police Department who throughout the course of this investigation worked tirelessly to bring those responsible into custody quickly. I would especially like to thank the Mayor, the City Council and the City Manager for their steadfast support. The Cuyahoga County Prosecutors Office, FBI, DEA, The Bureau of Criminal Investigation all provided the extra resources needed to bring this to a quick resolution. From the first moments of this tragedy, the Shaker Heights, South Euclid and University Heights Police Departments came to our assistance in the securing of the crime scene and in the search for the suspects. The Cleveland Police and CMHA Police assisted in their jurisdictions with the execution of the many search warrants.

All of the agencies, police departments and bureaus mentioned did not have to be called. They reached out to us and asked what they could do to help.

You, the citizens, the visitors and friends of Cleveland Heights rallied together in support of each other and the Police Department to show that those who want to disrupt Society with their criminal acts have many that will stand against them. You united with each other to help lessen the pain you felt and to help the Brennan family begin the healing process. Your actions at a time like this showed everyone that Cleveland Heights is a special city.

Jim Brennan embodied goodness. These suspects preyed on that goodness. Senseless crimes such as this are not isolated to Cleveland Heights. It is occurring in areas never touched by crime before. We must continue to act together as a united force to let those who want to hurt our community and our good citizens know that we will not tolerate it."

Jim Brennan was shot and killed during a robbery at his business, Brennan's Colony, on June 30. Four men, brothers Brandon and Darien Jones, along with brothers Paul and Devonne Turner, were taken into custody for the deadly incident the same day.

On Saturday, Cleveland Heights Police reported all men confessed to their involvement, but it is unclear when the confessions were actually made. Still, Cleveland Heights Police say the announcement only strengthens the case against the suspects.

The announcement of confessions met with mixed emotions in the community.

"I feel sad for Mr. Brennan, the family, and the families of the guys who did this. The whole thing is just a disaster. It doesn't bring relief. It's just very sorrowful," said neighbor Dawn Holst.

All four suspects are due in court next week.

In the meantime, the makeshift memorial at Brennan's establishment continues to grow.

Earlier this week, a statement was released that Brennan's Colony will reopen, but the timeline is still unknown. A fundraiser has been created to help the staff affected by the closure of the restaurant. The goal was to cover two weeks worth of wages at $25,000, but already, $45,000 has been raised!
