Dominic Mancuso's Editorial: Opportunity Corridor

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

The first rule in proposing a controversial project is to give it a positive name so there's no way to refuse. And so it is with the "Opportunity Corridor".

It's a three-mile road project that will extend from I-490 beginning at East 55th Street to University Circle. At over $300 million, it will be the most expensive stretch of road ever built in Ohio.

The controversy is that 64 homes and 20 businesses will have to be demolished, right through neighborhoods that have long been in decay. No one likes being forced to move regardless of the condition of their home.

Opportunity does exist. This is an opportunity for a fast and direct road to connect the West and East sides of Cleveland. An opportunity to create new homes and businesses that will help those neighborhoods see revival. The money is now in place so lets get paving. The "Opportunity Corridor" is another bold idea for a city determined to stay relevant.

I'm Dominic Mancuso and that's how we see it.
