FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WECT) -

Cumberland County Sheriff's deputies arrested and charged a man with attempted murder after he allegedly set his girlfriend's bed on fire while she was lying on it.

Michael Dwan Hall, Jr., 26, is accused of trying to use a lighter to set fire to the carpet of his girlfriend's bedroom Wednesday morning. When he failed to light the carpet on fire, he lit the bed on fire.

The couple's two children and two other adults were inside the home at the time of the incident.

A family member said Hall told him he didn't care that the children were inside at the time of the fire, and he threatened to kill everyone and burn the home to the ground.

Hall fled the scene after police were called, but surrendered to detectives on Friday.

Hall is charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill, first-degree arson, and misdemeanor child abuse.

He is currently in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $600,000 bond.
