PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

On Sunday, July 20 at 3:30 a.m. Lake County Sheriff's Office along with the Painesville Township Fire Department were dispatched to the area of Beachfront Dr. in Painesville Twp. regarding a vehicle that had driven off a cliff.

Deputies found a 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser had fallen almost 70ft. down the embankment.

Michael Brownell, 26, of Madison Twp., was the driver of the vehicle.

Brownell told deputies that his girlfriend, 31-year-old Ashley Cusick, was trapped inside of the vehicle.

PTFD was able to pull Cusick from the vehicle and hoist her up the steep embankment.

She was then transported to TriPoint Medical Center.

Brownell was also taken to TriPoint Medical Center for his injuries.

Detectives are still investigating the crash and say that alcohol does appear to have played a role.
