FREMONT, OH (WOIO) -

Friends and family of Cory Barron gathered at Fremont Ross High School to honor his life.

Those who attended the vigil wore purple and white, the school's colors.  Cory was a member of the Little Giants football team when he was a student.  Former classmate Kent Weaver said the town's response to Cory's death has "helped the grieving process along."

"It's been hard," he said, "but with the community coming together like it has, really helped."

"We gotta start the healing as a community," said Mike Dukeshire, the Barron's neighbor. "The whole community is in shock. To know the Barrons is to love the Barrons."

Cory disappeared at the Jason Aldean concert Friday, July 18. A worker found his body in the Lorain County landfill Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators said they think Cory fell down a garbage chute unseen by the stadium's security cameras.  The Lorain County Coroner's Office said it could take weeks to properly determine his cause of death. Cleveland Police will wait until then to determine if his death was an accident, or if foul play was involved.

The town of Fremont has just less than 17,000 people. Grief counselors will be at Fremont Ross High School Friday and Monday to help the community heal.

At the vigil, mourners prayed and recited poems. "We don't forget Little Giants even if we try. Goodbye to you Little Giant. In peace may you lie."
