Officials discover underfed animals in Scott County, IN

Posted: Updated:

SCOTT COUNTY, IN (WAVE) - Officials removed dozens of underfed animals from a rural Scott County residence, but dozens more were left behind.

The Scott County Sheriff’s office said the animals that were taken - including a donkey and two horses tethered to the ground, two cats, three German Shepherd pups and about 30 rabbits - were malnourished and thin.

A state veterinarian looked at all of the animals on the property. Many animals were left on the property because they appeared to be in good condition, but officials will check on the animals.

The sheriff said the owner, who claimed to be an animal lover, lives in Austin, IN, and drives out once a week to check on the animals.

The incident is still being investigated, and no decision has been made on possible criminal charges.
