EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The City of Evansville is working on a new Master Plan for the Department of Parks and Recreation.

The last master plan, which was created in 2008, was supposed to be the roadmap for future development but it was never approved by City Council.

An approved master plan would qualify parks department facilities for state and federal funding, as well as a wider variety of private monies.

The master plan will give the parks department an idea if they are on track, or could improve in different areas, by comparing Evansville to similarly-sized cities. The plan will also provide recommendations and a long-term strategy.

The public is being asked for its input through an online survey.

The goal is to complete the proposed new master plan and present it to City Council by mid-December for approval.

Once the document is approved and signed by Mayor Lloyd Winnecke it will be presented to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources in January 2015 for approval.
