CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -
Most fans are in shock. It's hard to believe such a vibrant actor and comedian is now gone.

Robin Williams spent time here in Cleveland and had plenty of friends. Tonight those friends are mourning, along with the rest of the country.

Robin Williams was in Cleveland in 2009 for open heart surgery at the Cleveland Clinic

Then in 2011, he came back to headline at the State Theater for the Heart to Heart benefit for the Clinic.

Radio personality Chuck Booms from 92.3 The Fan worked with Williams in the early 90's while working in Los Angeles at the Improv.

"When he walked into a room at the Improv, everybody's head turned, 'there he is, there he is,'" Booms said.

At Hilarities, a place of such happiness, there now lingers a black cloud.

"He was an example and inspiration," added Hilarities owner Nick Kostis. "He was a model. It's a very, very sad day."

For the comedians getting ready to take the stage, Robin Williams death is no laughing matter.

Williams was said to have been suffering from depression. But those who knew him say he was the happiest person in the room.

"(He) would go out of his way to be friendly, and made every new comedian feel welcomed," Booms said. "To end his life like this is unbelievable. I just would not think that he would do this and it is a huge loss and we will never see a talent like this again."
