(CNN) - Young adults should have later school start times so they can catch up on sleep, according to a study from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

It suggests delaying the start of the school day for middle and high school students until at least 8:30 a.m. to reduce chronic sleep loss, which is linked to poor health.

The study suggests teens should get between 8 1/2 to 9 1/2 hours of sleep on school nights.

And also turn off the distractions in the bedroom, like TV's, computers and gaming devices.
